In an effort to comply with EPA regulation, the City of Chattanooga, TN has contracted J. Cumby Construction to conduct reliability improvements at the Citico Pump Station, eliminate single points of failure in the electrical system, and ensure high water pumping capacity in the event of emergency.

Improvements will consist first of a new emergency backup pump station with a diversion chamber and slide gates for routing emergency overflows, three new grinding units, two new submersible pumps, and an overhead crane system. Also installed will be a new permanent backup generator, a new redundant electrical service to the site with switchboards and switchgear, and a new odor control system for the entire station.

This project is one of more than eighty separate projects planned to eliminate overflows into the Tennessee River and will provide 45 million gallons per day of processing capacity to the site while allowing continued operation in emergency and high water events.
